Cate Blatherwick

Cate is studying part-time for a BA (Hons) in Glass and Ceramics at Sunderland University and is presently using the medium of kiln- formed glass.  In her work,  she seeks to raise questions- about social injustice, how we feel, our emotional responses and about the way that society is structured or operates. The work that she creates tends to be peaceful, quiet and unassuming- whilst some of the issues that she considers may  be disturbing, or distressing.  She would like her work to challenge people to look and consider their own views, attitudes and beliefs.

She has a first degree in Fine Art, BA (Hons) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where she graduated in 1985.  Upon completion of this degree, she became established as a freelance artist and had a number of exhibitions across the North East.

She has a small studio space in Newcastle in the Biscuit Tin, and has plans to participate this year in a number of exhibitions, including the Late Show with the Biscuit Factory and The Dry Run with the 2nd year BA students
